Italia
Sociologist, photographer and video-maker.
I received a Ph.D. in Urban Studies in 2008 from the University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy, where I have done research until 2013.
In 2005, during a research mission in Khartoum, Sudan, I took my first pictures, black and white portraits of young internally displaced persons from the South living nearby my house. That was the spark starting my interest in Photography, which eventually drew inspiration from American and French humanist photographers.
Ever since, while doing academic research, I have carried out photographic works in Italy, Kenya, Paris, New York, Eastern Europe.

In 2010-11 I was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship to study documentary photography at the New York University.
Over the past three years, I have devoted to street food studies, starting on a project on South American metropolises in partnership with Milan Expo 2015. Since 2012, I coordinate the Street Food Global Network (www.streetfoodglobalnetwork.net). I am currently the president of Street Food SQUARE association (www.streetfoodsquare.org).
On this topic, I co-edited the book Street Food.Culture, Economy, Health and Governance (Routledge, August 2014), and I am producing the documentary film Esta es mi comida. Street food stories from South America.
Before turning to street food, my studies mainly focused on issues concerning refugees in Italy (I co-authored the book Chiedo asilo. Essere rifugiato in Italia, EGEA, 2012) and slums in Nairobi (www.mapkiberaproject.org).
